Raw Green Savory Breakfast Smoothie


This recipe was developed at The Liphe Balance Center in Weston, CT where, along with Director Barbara Slaine, we coached Alkaline  Diet Feasts.

Most people think of smoothies as a sweet treat, as most are packed with fruits. Savory smoothies can be just as satisfying, and offer a ton of nutrients with less of a sugar load. Cilantro is one of the best foods to have in the morning to naturally lower your blood-pressure. The addition of a heart-healthy oil and avocado helps the body better abosorb the Vitamins A, C, E, and K found in the assortment of vegetables, plus lycopene (a powerful anti-oxidant in the carotenoid family) from the tomatoes.

Raw Green Savory Breakfast Smoothie

1 tomato (chopped)

½ english cucumber (peeled and chopped)

1 avocado

¼ bunch cilantro (or parsley if preferred)

1 lime (peeled and chopped)

¼ medium onion (chopped)

½ head Romaine lettuce–or of your choice (chopped)

1 teaspoon sea salt

2 tablespoons omega-rich oil (we used a blend of flax, sesame, and sunflower oil)



  1. Place all ingredients in blender and blend until chunky or smooth, depending upon your preference.
