Is bone broth good for IBS? You may be hearing a lot of buzz around bone broth for IBS lately. It’s definitely a trending food right now, but actually, using bone-based stock or bone broth for stomach issues has been used for centuries to help heal illnesses and other stomach ailments. While there may not be solid scientific evidence supporting the health benefits of using bone broth for stomach issues, I personally have found that bone broth for IBS may help with some symptoms. And I’m not alone. I’ve heard from many people with IBS and other digestive disorders that drinking bone broth for IBS makes them feel better. What’s all the fuss? Bone broth contains collagen, amino acids, and minerals, which have been said to play a role in soothing an angry gut, alleviating joint pain, boosting immunity, and even brightening your complexion. This magical broth is made with natural and real ingredients, which is important when you have IBS. And it’s very possible that the gelatin from the cartilage of different animals can help with leaky gut, gut flora imbalances (dysbiosis), chronic diarrhea, constipation, and some food intolerances. But even apart from science, we have to consider our own personal experiences, as well as those of others. If so many people believe in the healing benefits of using bone broth for stomach issues, then why not give it a try? Needless to say, it won’t be just a fad in my house. In fact, I’ve created a recipe for a low-FODMAP version that calmed my gut during a recent bout with IBS. After drinking the broth in the morning, I felt less bloating and pain in my abdomen, and by evening my stomach felt soothed and back to its normal size. Yes, it’s possible something else could have tamed my insides, or maybe it was just the fact that I took a moment out of my busy day to calmly sip the warm stock. Either way, I plan to keep drinking bone broth when my IBS acts up. So, is bone broth good for IBS? Try it for yourself and see if it improves any digestive or pain symptoms you may be experiencing.
