Holli – I have suffered from migraines for years now. I can’t seem to find a pattern or definite cause. Sometimes they slowly surface throughout the day, other times I wake up with them in the morning (without any warning signs the night before). They are excruciating, as I’m sure you know, and make it almost impossible to function. I don’t like the idea of taking painkillers, so I often try to wait them out, lay in a dark room, cover my eyes with a cool, wet washcloth. But, sometimes those actions aren’t even possible when I’m home alone with my kids. How should I approach trying to heal them through diet? Do a total elimination of certain foods (gluten, sugar, dairy, caffeine)? Or try to cut back on one thing at a time, like gluten? I’m overwhelmed by the idea of cutting out a lot of foods. Help!

I hear you, and yes, I have felt your pain. I’m sorry.
I would love to see you do a well supported cleanse, where you remove all of the possible offending foods that are inflaming you. Yes, it sounds daunting, but with the right cleanse, and lots of good healthy food, it will not be that bad.
You could certainly eliminate one at a time, but since many of those foods are inflammatory in many people, it might be hard to reach a conclusion.
I’m happy to consult with you on this, if you’d ever like to have a session.
Good luck, my dear. I believe that our food heals, and that most of the time, its something in our diet that creates this imbalance.

Hi Holli – in your opinion, what are the most inflammatory foods that we should try to avoid, and does the answer change depending upon our age?? I’m in my late 50’s and already know I have a gluten intolerance but I feel it may go beyond that. Thank you! Sharon

I outline them all in my book, “Discover Your Nutritional Style” available on my website at hollithompson.com/shop or on Amazon.
I outline why they are inflammatory, which is important to know.
While I don’t recognize age itself as a marker, if you’ve been eating something that is inflaming you for decades, the body is not an unlimited resource, and you may be feeling the effects more and more.
Gluten, dairy, sugar, soy… caffeine, nightshades.
