How I work with my clients

No Info Yet

234 5th Avenue, Suite 318, New York, NY

I’ve always been into eating healthy and healthy food! My father is in the vitamin business and I’ve been going to health food trade shows since I can remember. Growing up we even owned a health food store, so you might say being healthy is in my blood. Although I didn’t go into nutrition out of college, it didn’t take me long to realize the corporate world just wasn’t giving me what I needed. After 8 years working at a Law Firm I went back to school and became a Registered Dietitian. I started as a Dietitian working in hospitals to get an overview of many different medical conditions, and then I started to work in private practices in Manhattan. However, many of these practices didn’t fit within my nutrition beliefs. I didn’t want my clients eating artificial sweeteners and “no calorie” foods so I started my own practice based on realistic goals to help my clients meet their needs and maintain those results. I firmly believe that educating my clients instead of just handing them meal plans leads to a lifetime of healthy habits and habits they can share with their families. I am an avid home-cook and I focus on gluten-free and dairy-free foods for myself and whole grains and minimally refined sugar when it comes to my three sons. My kids cook with me in the morning and on weekends and I can happily say they all like veggies (but they don’t all like salmon). I am a big believer in being active, playing sports, lifting weights and trying new things. I also enjoy chocolate and wine! Amy Shapiro, MS, RD, CDN, is the founder and director of Real Nutrition NYC. She received her Registered Dietitian licensure and Masters in Clinical Nutrition from New York University, and completed her dietetic internship at Montefiore Medical Center. • Posted in Collagen vs Collagen Peptides: What’s the Difference? on Friday Jun 28, 2019

hi there: Thanks for the question. Collagen comes from the bones and connective tissue proteins of animals-something that we don't typically eat when we eat beef or eggs (unless you are eating the whole animal). The amino acids found in collagen are different from the amino acids found in other proteins, and collagen works differently in our bodies. Specifically collagen contains 18 amino acids and is particularly high in glycine and proline, which have important functions in the body. Hi Lyrian: Thanks for the question. Our marine collagen peptides comes from wild caught cod. It will provide all the same benefits as our bovine collagen! Here is a link to the marine collagen https://shop.furtherfood.com/products/marine-collagen-peptides-protein-powder Our gelatin powder comes from the same source as the bovine collagen peptides-gelatin just has different applications. Since it gels, gelatin is best used to make gummies, jello and puddings. Learn more here https://shop.furtherfood.com/products/further-food-premium-gelatin-powder-45-servings Hope this helps!
