My Story

I had my first CT scan in 6th grade because of migraines, and I was later treated with medications for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), hypothyroidism, as well as lupus, an autoimmune disease. I always knew my migraines were influenced by my diet, but it took me until my 30’s to realize that I was eating a pro-inflammatory diet that was also affecting my other conditions. For a long time I thought I was eating a healthy diet, but after transitioning to an unprocessed diet and removing foods that I determined bothered me (namely gluten and dairy) I experienced the biggest, positive impact. In small doses I can tolerate soy, peanuts and corn, but I generally avoid these. Since making these dietary changes and making fitness non-negotiable, I have come off of all of my medications and I ran the NYC marathon in 2013. Now, when I eat, I not only pay attention to the taste and experience of the food, but also to how it serves my health.
