My Story

I wasn’t passionate about healthy living until I went to college and was put on a fairly strict budget. I remember my first trip to the grocery store with my roommate. She was thin and beautiful, just had this speed-runner metabolism and a torso for days, but ate whatever she wanted, usually Chex Mix. That’s when I really knew that all of our bodies responded differently to food. I ate carbs, and my stomach was like, “Yes, friends! All of you, stay forever!”

What I was putting into my body began to matter when I checked my bank statement for the first time. I thought, “Why am I spending my money to feed my poor eating habits? Like, I’m wasting cash on late-night pizza and gaining weight. What a lose, lose.” So I decided to stick with my meal plan. I ate at this little salad bar two times a day. Fresh grilled chicken, veggies, fruit. I swapped salsa for salad dressing, avoided shredded cheese, and drank lots of water. I waved bye-bye to alcohol. Then I became infatuated.I kept a food journal, did my research, started working out. I suddenly had a sweet tooth, which was very odd, so I accommodated by making low-calorie sweets. Suddenly, my friends were asking me for low-calorie cupcakes and pancakes. I accommodated. I found ways to integrate veggies into cakes. I’m not just talking about carrot cake, either. I loved baking, I loved eating, and the blog started somewhere in the middle. Now I know that God made me a foodie for a reason.
