A while back I made a pact with myself – to live with intention and engage proactively in my life. Like most inspiration, this desire for change came from feeling unsettled and unhappy – I felt as if life was passing me by and I was too busy and stressed to give it a second thought. Creating rituals is a way in which I have found more purpose, clarity, and joy in my life. My list is long, so I use it as a guide rather than a to-do list – it includes activities I can do on a daily, monthly, seasonal and annual basis and they vary in ease and excitement factor-like reading a book, making myself a nourishing meal, practicing yoga or those that require a bit of scheduling like a board game night with friends.
Apple picking was at the top of my seasonal list, but I may have been a bit too eager because I picked nearly 20 pounds. Needless to say, I went on a cooking spree. Apples are fantastic fruits – they contain phytonutrients like quercetins that slow down carbohydrate digestion and improve insulin responsiveness to help and steady blood sugar levels. Blood sugar balance is important for steady energy levels, minimizing sugar cravings and fat loss.
