Mixed Berry Chia Jam (Sugar-free!)

Print

My family has quit sugar. But we see that as no reason to miss out on jam. You might wonder how jam works without sugar and added pectin and other fancy bits and bobs. Chia seeds give the jam it’s jelly-like texture and provide a source of fibre and omega-3 fatty acids. Without sugar, the jam doesn’t keep as long. But that’s the perfect reason to eat more of it! This chia jam makes a delicious topping to yogurt, muesli, porridge and pancakes.

Further Food Commentary:

What an easy way to enjoy a sweet spread without the guilt. I love that this recipe contains only healthy foods. The berries provide fiber, antioxidants and sweetness without the sugar spike, the oranges and the strawberries provide a nice dose of vitamin C and of course the amazing chia provides texture, fiber, omega 3 fatty acids, calcium and protein. Spreading this on a sprouted slice of toast with almond butter makes for a gently sweet, balanced and energy providing meal or snack. Such a great alternative to popular jams and jelly’s that contain 15g of sugar in one tablespoon!
