I cannot get enough chocolate! I wanted to create a healthy “superfood” chocolate that was dairy-free, gluten-free, with no guilt associated!

Cocoa powder is low in calories and fat and is rich in flavonoids including polyphenols, catechins and flavonols, with potential mood and cardiovascular benefits. Such promises explain our time-tested fascination with it. In fact, ancient Mesoamericans used cacao as both medication and currency. Plus, use leftover cacao powder when you’re feeling chilly to make a soul-warming superfood version of hot chocolate.

Ingredients

1 cup raw cacao powder

1 cup coconut oil (Liquid, may have to melt if too solid)

¼ c maple syrup

1 tbsp sea salt

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Shape the chocolate into a mold of your choice.
  3. Place molds in the freezer and let harden for about 30 minutes.
  4. For extra flavor and texture, add other ingredients such as hemp seeds, chia seeds, nuts, goji berries or dried cranberries.
