Founder's story:

"My father had just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, my mom was
managing her hypothyroid, and my best friend was struggling with painful IBS.
I went online to search for food-based and natural solutions that could help
them heal. But what I found was scattered, disorganized, and left me more confused. I thought, ‘There must be an easier way to discover solutions for various ailments from real experts and from people who had done it themselves. So I decided to build a resource—a platform for food as medicine solutions
for all your health needs. And I decided to take the wisdom from this community to create real food based products that heal.

  1. Confused??

Kinda confused??? So I understand the owner is a woman but is this company’s products just for women? Because all I see is women, women and only more women on your site…I don’t know is this is a Girl Power thing and your companies culture? Are your products good for men too? So strange…

Hi Ladd: Thanks for the question. Try putting unsweetened almond milk or cinnamon in your coffee. Or you can put a small amount of monkfruit or stevia-both of those sweeteners are approved in very small amounts.
      Good luck!

After attempting to do the Whole30 diet I realized I have a sugar addiction. I can go approximately 2 weeks without sugar, then I have to have it!! It’s like my brain is hard wired to have sugar. It would be great not to have this need for sugar.

I’m in my second week of sugar/sweet free eating. This week is considerably more difficult then last. Thank you for this blog! I’m so encouraged to keep going! I’ve seriously felt so much more energy and sharpness after work. All the information on the effects of sugar on the body, including, the bad bacteria growth, poor memory, overall being tired are thing’s I’ve known. When you reiterate them to me, I feel connected to a strong, real, health conscious group of others who also see the light. It’s not easy to find information like this in a google search. Thank you!!

After watching the sugar movie on Stan and one on YouTube it’s crazy why more people can’t see that sugar is such a bad thing for you.my father learnt after nearly 4 years of going to the hospital for checks on why he wasn’t feeling well that he has type 2 diabetes.yes after 4 years.one nurse asked have you had your BSI done.they tested him and he was 32.kept him in hospital for 3 days to get it down.now he looks at what he eats and for a 78 year old his BSI is now 6.so I’m doing your challenge and am looking forward to it.will be passing on to a few friends.good luck everyone.

I have early stage Gleason 4 prostate cancer. I have always had a sweet tooth and started drinking a
    Whisky every night.

I have stopped drinking, sweets, chocolate etc. I get cravings for mince pies or blueberry muffins, French fries and grapes – they are hard to resist – but I will if I can substitute.

I like most vegetables, porridge and ‘healthy’ bread. I eat marmite, bananas, pears, while step by step I try to cut out sweet foods and move more towards just vegetables. I drink almond milk. I don’t eat meat or drink cows milk for two years now.

That’s as far as I have got.

I hope that can help me become more rigorous and disciplined.

Thank you for you kind offer.

I am not vegetarian, but eat very little meat or fish. My protein sources tend to be from cheeses/dairy, nuts, and eggs, with the odd bit of meat occasionally. Do I need to request one or the other?

I have started the learning process (walked into Whole Foods for the first time / bought Sarah Wilson’s IQS book) and began cutting back on my sugar intake. I am not overweight (5’8″ 132lbs) but when I do eat….it ain’t pretty nor is it sugar free! I am going to be 50 and I want to be as healthy as possible.
HOWEVER, trying to decipher labels is so confusing. Table sugar (beat or cane) is easy to identify but enriched flour (high glycemic) and syrups are among some of the pitfalls. I am not eating pretzels but I swear I do not fully understand the reason.
Packaging/marketing is also deceptive, I just spent way too much on a deli-style multigrain cracker with a Og of Sugar claim on the front of the box. Upon further investigation the ingredients clearly lists SUGAR as the fourth ingredient. Yet, the Nutrition label backs the front claim and says 0G…..This is just one package! So does it have sugar or NOT?
Obviously sticking to vegetables and lean meat is preferential (Paleo) but I was simply trying to follow the whole grain recommendation. I am signed up for the challenge on 20-August and anxious to learn more.

    Hi
I may be interested in the Sugar Detox Challenge. I do not need to loose any weight. I just tend to steer towards sweet treats, mainly biscuits and weekend lollies, honey and jam. I do not eat in excess, but could clearly do without it. I generally crave something sweet after my lunch or main meal. Would choose sweet over savoury for a treat.

Are there any additional costs associated with taking the challenge?

    Thanking you in advance

There are lots of foods people should avoid if you have Hashi’s, which correspond with ones you should avoid if you have PCOS. With that said, lots of foods which are listed as beneficial if you have Hashi’s—eggs, yogurt, nuts—are not ideal for people with PCOS. Are the recipes taking other AI disorders into account, too? I know that would be quite limiting…

Hi Ruth: Taking the sugar pledge is a great way to start! For 7 days you will cut out all added sugars, including honey, maple syrup and other sweeteners. Both of our meal plans are gluten free too! And if you need other recipe inspiration, Further Food has lots of recipes without gluten or dairy. Good luck and keep us updated!

Do we get information on how to prepare for this before hand? I signed up but I am wondering how do I prepare? Seems day one I should already know how to proceed.

I have type 2 diabetes, Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, inflammatory arthritis, vitiligo, depression, stage 3 adrenal fatigue and hair loss. I am a point in my life where I desperately want to get healthy and am willing to give up sugar and gluten if it is the only way to get better. I am only 51 years old and I am worried about my future since my father has Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and my mother has severe Rheumatoid arthritis and heart disease (she has already had 3 heart attacks). I hope your recipes will help me! Thanks.

Also just wanted to tell you how I love your product! I am 63 years old and have struggled with my weight for years. I have tried everything and nothing really suited me. Then I started your product. After about a week of taking the product along with changing my dietary needs and exercising I feel amazing. I started with the sugar detox (which is how I discovered your product) and then I cut out dairy, all meat except fish, and started concentrating on fruits and vegetables. I do not eat pasta either, which being Italian is difficult but manageable. The most important thing I did was change my attitude. I started slowly with the exercise as I was unable to do much because I had been sedentary for years. I am now up to 2 miles of walking, I am doing some minor strength training and feel fantastic. I rock it out to Nickleback and the time flies. I love to dance so that helps too. I have been doing all of this for 11 days and have lost 10 pounds. Just wanted to brag a little. Also, I have no more back issues as before. I, along with millions of people, have ruptured discs and bulges, sciatica, and all that other mess. But I have no more pain and feel like a teenager. Once again thanks for this product.

I absolutely LOVED this week long sugar detox. I don’t typically eat hardly any processed convenience foods or simple sugars in my diet because I know they make me feel inflamed and sluggish, but I definitely had a lot of extra chocolate over the holidays (and gained an extra 7 pounds) so this was perfect to help get me back on track (by the way, I lost 6 of those 7 pounds over the 7 day detox). The meal plans were convenient and helpful and made shopping for the week quite easy. I was able to make a number of the soups and dishes ahead of time so that I didn’t have any excuse to cheat due to not having the time to cook. The vast majority of the recipes were absolutely delicious (even my boyfriend ate them and thought they were yummy) and I have printed many of them for my personal recipe arsenal and continued to make and rotate through them since I completed the challenge. I didn’t receive my order of Further Collagen powder until halfway through the 7 days, but have been using it in my smoothies and soups and am looking forward to seeing what results I get from it in the 1 – 3 month range. It has certainly been the kindest protein powder I have tried as far as my digestion goes – no gas, no reflux, no diarrhea – so I’d say we’re off to a good start there. This is a very doable, accessible challenge for anyone and I would highly recommend it. You won’t miss sugar one bit! (I didn’t even indulge in the desserts at night and I still didn’t miss sweets)

Issued sugar detox challenge to a group of coworkers, over ten accepted. Had fun motivating each other, calling out “the cheaters” and publicly shaming the non-participant who bought donuts for the office on Day 1 of the challenge. At end of the challenge, I acknowleged all participants and had a prize drawing for a gift card from a local fresh market store.

I didn’t follow the meal plans offered, but I liked the recipes that introduced me to ingredients I had not used before. Ate clean with the help of the diet guide and lost 7 pounds.

Going further by issuing more challenges to a larger group of coworkers.

I reduce my sugar intake about 60% for the challenge. I have some unplanned trips so I could do the full challenge. I will try to make a life change from now on. Thank you for all the receipts and support.

It wasn’t easy but I got my husband to do it with me which was really fun! We loved the daily email advice tips…they were really motivating and informative. We didn’t follow the meal plan to a tee, but loved the stuffed zucchini bowls and mashed cauliflower recipes…they’re going to be new staples in our kitchen! It was also fun making the salad bowls together for lunch… we actually realized that we saved a lot of money by bringing leftovers and salads for lunch rather than going out and buying lunch, which is what we used to do. We’re both going to try to stick with being sugar-free! Wish us luck!

This was great! I lost 5 pounds the first week. Now that I’m off the sugar I’m going to keep it up. I feel so much better already. I have more energy and don’t feel that mid afternoon slump.
