Banana Spinach Green Smoothie

I had just completed a yoga workout at home, and I was feeling so relaxed and elated by the beauty of the morning, I wanted something bright and comforting for breakfast. I loved the color, and the figs gave it such a rich, sweet flavor. It is definitely one of my favorite smoothies to date!

Further Food Commentary:

The frozen banana trick is so key to not ever feeling deprived because it easily transforms foods into a creamy indulgence as if by magic. Bananas contain an indigestible “resistant starch” fiber that blocks some of the absorption of carbohydrates reducing overall fat accumulation over time. Plus they provide plenty of B vitamins for optimal energy metabolism. Most appealingly, bananas contain tryptophan, which in addition to Vitamin B6, boosts brain production of mellowing serotonin relieving stress and anxiety.

I LOVE this smoothie! It uses all of my favorite ingredients. I don’t have dried figs in my kitchen normally (or ever really) so I had to leave those out… I added my own whey protein, mint chocolate chip flavored, and it was SO good!!! This is the best basic smoothie recipe that can easily be modified

Thanks for the idea, Katie! I tried it this morning with protein powder too (mine’s a chocolate plant-based protein) and it was great! The cinnamon and figs are really delicious in this. Awesome recipe, Maria!
