Cantaloupe and Fig Green Spoonie

After a hard workout, I’m always looking for high anti-inflammatory power and protein foods. I came up with this spoonie (smoothies so thick you can eat them with a spoon) after a workout full of squats. My workout, along with the fact that spring is peeking around the corner, had me craving figs – which are full of fiber, vitamins, minerals and natural sugar to replenish depleted stores of glycogen. It also contains ginger which reduces inflammation and contains plant protein to repair muscle. Not only is this recipe VERY simple, but is also a nutritional powerhouse with all the ingredients! Come enjoy this delicious smoothie after a hard work out!

Packed with vitamins, minerals and all three macronutrients, this smoothie is a nutritional powerhouse. Avocado and chia seeds provide healthy sources of monounsaturated and omega-3 polyunsaturated fats. Dark leafy greens and ginger root lend this smoothie potent anti-inflammatory properties which help to subdue autoimmune symptoms. Together, the high water concentration and vitamin A content in cantaloupe does wonders for the complexion and hydration status. Aside from the vanilla plant protein in this recipe, hemp seeds are an additional source of a complete protein—this means that they contain all essential amino acids.

Cantaloupe and Fig Green Spoonie

Ingredients

1 cup almond milk
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1/2 avocado
1 cup cantaloupe (cubed)
1 scoop of vanilla plant protein of your choice
1″ piece ginger root
Handful of mixed greens
1 teaspoon hemp seeds
1 teaspoon cacao nibs
2 dried figs (sliced)

Instructions

1. Place all but the last three ingredients into a blender and mix until smooth.
2. Pour into serving bowl or jar and top with hemp seeds, cacao nibs and fig. Enjoy!
