In high school I was a four-sport athlete and lived for the team pizza dinner after the big game. Unfortunately, that metabolism doesn’t last forever. I went to college and studied physical therapy. With this major I believed I had to practice what I preach. I did just that by working out 6 times a week. That’s why I was shocked by the end of the first semester that I had put on 20 pounds. I was terrified to step on a scale and frustrated; nothing was taking off the added weight. It wasn’t until the end of sophomore year that I decided to look at this from a nutritional perspective. My new motto was to not treat my stomach like a trash can. During that summer, my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She made a brave decision to heal herself naturally through a holistic diet. While challenging at first, we actually enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen making meals catering to her specific dietary needs, and mine. It seemed to work, and by the end of summer I was a comfortable weight, which restored my confidence going back to school for my junior year. This experience made me realize the profound impact of food not just for weight loss but also to address illnesses. Needless to say I have since changed my professional goals and am now pursuing a Masters in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition at New York University. I am also part of a bigger movement that is educating individuals of all health backgrounds and conditions at Further Food. Wanna learn more about me? Go to my blog! www.atoztotalhealth.wordpress.com
