Banana Date Smoothie

Going through chemotherapy treatment for cancer is probably one of the most harsh experiences the human body can go through. This is one of my healing recipes that I developed to support me during this difficult process.

Further Food Commentary:

During chemotherapy, loss of appetite is very common - it’s also a time when your body needs a good supply of nutrients to help support the immune system during a time of great stress. Smaller, more frequent meals can make getting adequate calories more manageable and this smoothie is a great example of what a small meal could look like.

Another common side effect during chemotherapy is diarrhea, which can lead to potassium loss, making this banana smoothie a good choice! If you are already experiencing diarrhea during your treatments, you may want to omit the dates because dried fruits can worsen symptoms.

Whether or not you are undergoing chemotherapy, Heather’s Banana Smoothie is a nice way to help you to stay hydrated, replenish potassium stores and soothe GI distress.

Delicious! The bananas and dates give this smoothie a great natural sweetness. Didn’t add flax meal or protein powder, subbed almond milk with coconut milk.
