Some days call for an extra boost of plant-powered energy, and getting it through a straw is refreshing, convenient, easy to digest and packed with energizing nutrients. Hannah's green smoothie is loaded with minerals, antioxidant vitamins and fiber from kale and berries, plant-based protein from chlorella* (use spirulina as an alternative), and healthy omega-3 fats from the almond butter and chia.
*Chlorella is a green micro-algae that is nearly 60% protein, and contains all of the essential amino acids, making it a complete protein source suitable for vegetarians and vegans. It's also an excellent source of B vitamins, magnesium, iron, zinc and powerful antioxidants.
Note: Decrease calories and sugar by choosing unsweetened almond milk, and almond butter (if store-bought) with only one ingredient -- almonds. The latter will likely cut down the sodium levels as well.
